Evripides Zantides, PhD

Professor, Graphic and Visual Communication

Evripides Zantides, Ph.D., is Dean of the School of Fine and Applied Arts and Professor in Graphic and Visual Communication at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology. He has published research papers at a number of journals and presented work at international conferences on Semiotics, Graphic Design Education, Typography and Visual Communication, as well as in Art and Graphic Design exhibitions. 

He is country delegate of Cyprus for the International Association for Semiotic Studies and the Association Typographique Internationale, member of Hellenic Semiotic Society, co-founder and member for the Cyprus Poster Triennial and Cyprus Association of Graphic Designers and Illustrators. His research interests are on theories of semiotics in the process of fine or applied visualisation of verbal language, using image, text/typography and sound. He is founder and director at the Semiotics and Visual Communication Research Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology.

Andri Ioannou, PhD

Associate Professor

Dr Andri Ioannou is an Associate Professor at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and Director of the Cyprus Interaction Lab (CIL), an interdisciplinary research Lab dealing with topics in the intersection of Educational Technology and Human Computer Interaction. Andri also leads the EdMedia Group at the Research Centre on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies. Andri has a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and an MA in Education both from the University of Connecticut (USA), and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus. Her research contributes to key areas of educational technology, including the (i) design and evaluation of technology-enhanced learning environments, (ii) use of technology to support skills within a 21st century framework including problem-solving, collaboration, metacognition, and “living in the world” skills, (iii) design of embodied, playful and gameful learning using technology, and (iv) technology integration in all levels of education. She has more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications in highly cited international journals and refereed conference proceedings. Andri has been involved as a principal investigator (PI), local coordinator, or researcher in more than 20 research projects, funded by the European Union and national grants.

Aekaterini Mavri, PhD

Special Teaching Staff

Aekaterini Mavri is a tenured teaching staff member at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, and the co-director of the Cyprus Interaction Lab at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), as well as an affiliated senior researcher for UX evaluation projects at the EdMedia Group of the CYENS Centre of Excellence. 

Aekaterini holds a BA in Visual Communication Design, an MA in Design for Interactive Media – both from Middlesex University (UK) – and a Ph.D. in Educational Technology from CUT. She worked as an interactive designer and project manager in the industry for several years and currently teaches User-centered, User Experience, and Web Design modules at CUT. 

Her research focuses on the design and evaluation of technology-supported social learning models, with a particular aim to facilitate effective university-industry collaborations for the development of key 21st-century skills. Her research also centers around User Experience (UX) design, Learning Experience (LX) Design, co-design, and gamification in formal and informal education, with attention to making technologies, e-banking, and e-health applications. Aekaterini participated in the AssessMake21, Erasmus+ project and is the initiator of the CUT-IXN Industry Exchange Network (IXN) initiative in collaboration with University College London (UCL). 

Omiros Panayides

Assistant Professor

Omiros Panayides is Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the School of Fine and Applied Arts at the Cyprus University of Technology and coordinator at the Semiotics and Visual Communication Lab. In 2016, he was one of the founding members, and remains the vice-president, of the Cyprus Association of Graphic Designers and Illustrators. His professional practice of graphic design and academic research revolves around Book Arts, Zines, Typography, Printing, Social Engaged Design, Visual Archives and the Preservation of Visual Communication in Cyprus through the Graphic Design of Printed Matter.

Theseas Mouzouropoulos

Special Teaching Staff

Theseas graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in 2003 with a Masters degree in Communication Design. He also holds a BA degree in Graphic Communication from the University of the West of England as well as a diploma in Graphic and Advertising Design from the Frederick Institute of Technology in Cyprus. He taught Graphic Design at the Department of Fine & Applied Arts of Frederick Institute of Technology for eight years and he was the Creative Director of Cherrycube Design Studios Ltd until 2010.  He is currently lectures at the Multimedia & Graphic Arts Department of the Cyprus University of Technology and he offers design consultancy for various Graphic Design projects related to his current academic interests. His professional work has been awarded and recognized in both national and international design awards. He has participated in several international graphic design exhibitions and his work has been acknowledged in various publications both locally and internationally. He was also invited in several international judging committees on various disciplines based on Graphic Design and Motion Graphics. He was a founding member of the Cyprus Association of Graphic Design & Illustration Design (CAGDI) and the Cyprus Creative Club (CCC). Currently, he is a member of CAGDI and CCC, as well as a member of the Semiotics & Visual Communication Lab of the Cyprus University of Technology.

Angelos Panayides

Special Teaching Staff

Angelos graduated the University of the West of England, obtaining a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and an MA in Interactive Media-Video and Sound Arts. Previously he has studied Graphic and Advertising design at Frederick Institute of Technology on a full scholarship achieving the highest average score in his class. He has worked in the Post-Production for BBDO-Telia & Pavla, advertising agency in Cyprus and he is the founder of Think Positive New Media where he has been Art Director.Moreover, he worked as full time Special Teaching Staff at the Department of Applied Arts at Frederick Institute of Technology. He is an active member of Semiotics and Visual Communications Lab and a founding member of the Cyprus Semiotics Association. He is also a founding member and the current secretary of Cyprus Graphic Design & Illustration Association and a board member of Cyprus Creative Club (member of the ADC*E). He has participated in several international design exhibitions and biennials and his work has been acknowledged in various publications both locally and internationally. He has also participated in several local and international judging committees such as the ADC*E (Art Directors Club of Europe) on disciplines of Promotions & New Media and Digital.His research interests focus also on illustration, collage, print and the use of digital media as alternative means of expression in contemporary arts.
