Program Structure

Program runs 1.5 years, structured on 3 semesters.
Semesters consist of 9 Courses, 8 modules and 1 thesis project

BXD 601 – Introduction to Brand Experience Design

The purpose of the current course is to explore alternative and experimental ways for branding communication, identity, presence and innovation. In doing so, the course investigates the role of fine-art thinking, audiovisual experimentation, environmental, guerilla advertising, sensory experiences and participatory visual communication for the purposes of branding, identity and communication. Through an in-depth study of brand expression and brand narratives, students will work individually or in teams, composing interactive brand actions that challenge the limits of design and its initial purpose, by disrupting and reframing current norms.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 602 – Brand and User Experience Design

This module concerns the study of how people interact with technology while using digital products and services, to design effective and accessible user interfaces. Specifically, it focuses on the research, analysis, and interpretation of human needs, limitations, and preferences of technology use, the design and development of digital interfaces, as well as their evaluation based on fundamental usability principles and hands-on user-centered methods (i.e. think-aloud, biometrics, eye-tracking and other).

The digital products and services of interest stem from areas such as communication and collaboration, educational technology, e-health and well-being, and affective computing, and can integrate emerging new technologies such as wearables, IoT, AR and AI.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 603 – Motion Design

Initially, the course focuses on the parallel use of sound-image-typography by examining and analyzing the evolution and history of the inter-relationship between audio-vision.

Furthermore, the course deals with critical thinking, concept formulation, sound interpretation and storyboard development targeted for the production of moving image. Students are challenged to compose various media in a creative way in order to produce professional motion designs targeted for branding communication: stop motion, animation, kinetic typography, 3D modeling, video content, photography, graphic & illustration design.

Finally, the course integrates specialized technical training by examining the industry’s professional technical standards: TV, smartphones, tablets, desktops.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 604 – Illustration of Tomorrow

The aim of the course is to investigate the role of illustration as a means of communication and expression in the contemporary arts and design by correlating visual thinking, research skills and storytelling ability.

Students will have the opportunity to test and apply their practical skills and expand the creative possibilities in terms of both production and distribution, incorporating a vast range of early traditional illustration tools to an array of cutting-edge contemporary media through a series of experimental design assignments in a variety of conventional and non-conventional contexts.

The course will enable the students to develop sustainable creative models that respond and contribute to the expanding field of contemporary illustration evaluating the often-invisible boundaries of fine and applied arts.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 605 – Research Methods

The purpose of this course is to aid the students to acquire theoretical knowledge about the various research approaches and to provide an overview of research design.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 606 – Interface Design

The course examines design thinking and human-centered design, in order to create User Interfaces (UI) targeted for various platforms or brands through delivering a seamless visual experience. Initially the course begins with analyzing a creative brief and then focuses on the creative processes for designing moodboards, responsive layouts as well as developing wireframes. The second part of the course deals with the formulation and production of a complete organic Graphic User Interface (GUI): responsive screen based typography, web iconography, motion graphics and clickable hi-fidelity prototypes.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 607 – Space and Experimental Brand Experiences

The purpose of the current course is to explore alternative and experimental ways for branding communication, identity, space, presence and innovation. In doing so, the course investigates the role of fine-art thinking, audiovisual experimentation, environmental, guerilla advertising, multisensory experiences and participatory visual communication for the purposes of designing brand experiences. Through an in depth study of brand expression and brand narratives, students will work individually or in teams, composing interactive brand actions that challenges the limits of design and its initial purpose, by disrupting and reframing current norms.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 608 – Social Media Design for Brand experience

This course studies the process of managing a brand’s online presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter through formulating a complete advertising strategy.

This will be achieved by designing, publishing and analyzing social media content through a practice based project. Students will examine various online marketing methodologies that assist a brand’s engagement and interaction with its associated social media users. By the end of the course students will also investigate the relevant tools for managing and administrating social media posts.

ECTS: 7.5

BXD 609 – Master Thesis (Theoretical or Practice-based Project)

The purpose of this course is to aid the students in designing, developing, completing and presenting their research work on a selected issue / topic in the area(s) of digital design and/or branding, using contemporary theories and methods. The design research projects which are focused on the development of practical (design) outcomes will be accepted if the development is supported by a relevant theoretical framework and analytical approach.
